CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTING DIPLOMA PROGRAM BAKERSFIELD, LANCASTER, TEMECULA

At High Desert Medical College, our Clinical Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students to enter the healthcare industry. Clinical Medical Assistants are critical allied health professionals, performing an assortment of duties in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. This 34-week program provides students with intensive training emphasizing the use of the Electronic Health Records system, ICD-10 Medical Billing and coding, as well as venipunctures and EKG's. Students also receive real-world on-the-job experience through an Externship.

Students in the Clinical Medical Assisting program learn how to:

  • Verify patient information and health insurance
  • Update and file patients' medical records
  • Record information in medical recordkeeping systems, such as the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
  • Complete and file paperwork such as surgical permission forms, health check forms and insurance paperwork
  • Prepare the examination rooms
  • Prepare and handle medical instruments and supplies
  • Measure patients' vital signs
  • Administer medications and injections
  • Collect and prepare specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing
  • Prepare the patient for any scheduled procedures, and answer any questions they may have regarding the procedure

    Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Clinical Medical Assisting diploma.

    The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Clinical Medical Assistants among the fastest growing occupations over the 2021-2031 decade. Employment is projected to grow 10% – much faster than the average job ranking. Clinical Medical Assistants hold positions in physician offices, hospitals, medical clinics, long-term care facilities, college and university health facilities, and more.
