HDMC Earns CAPPS Community Service Award
The California Association of Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) announces High Desert Medical College as a recipient of the 2020 CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Awards with a tie for 3rd place – Small School category.
The CAPPS Excellence in Community Service Awards were inaugurated in 2016 to recognize CAPPS Member Schools that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their local community. These awards recognize and encourage initiatives in community service, service learning, and civic engagement that have a significant impact on the communities served by our schools. High Desert Medical College
Close to our campus and close to our heart.
High Desert Medical College believes in a culture of community and support throughout the year. They support multiple local programs from food drives to their Adopt a Family tradition during the holidays, High Desert Medical College is committed to giving back.
Here is a sampling of the programs close to their campus and the ways they served from their heart.
Red White Blue Community Development Center
With the support of High Desert Medical College, Red White Blue Community Development Center was able to supply Christmas gifts to over 200 kids within the community. They also participated in the creating and handing out of care packages to the homeless. And the work-study students assisted with the operations of a thrift store owned by Red White Blue CDC.
California Dental Association
Students and faculty provided free dental care for more than 2000 people throughout the year.
The Mission of Kern County
HDMC collected and donated more than 5,000 non-perishable food items for Thanksgiving to feed the hungry.
Staff, faculty and students organized a food and clothing drive to support at-risk, single mothers with young children and individuals with a history of foster care or child abuse.
