Pharmacy technicians work hand-in-hand with licensed pharmacists, performing supportive administrative and clinical tasks. Pharmacy technicians are responsible for helping licensed pharmacists fill and dispense medications prescribed to patients by medical professionals. Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in measuring, mixing, counting, labeling, and recording the correct dosages of prescription medications. These healthcare professionals establish and maintain patient record files, submit insurance claim forms, and manage prescription and over-the-counter medication inventories. Daily tasks may include receiving and verifying prescriptions or refill requests from patients and doctors’ offices, verifying inventory, processing medical insurance forms, and operating cash registers to accept payments from customers. Pharmacy technicians often interact directly with patients, and must adhere to HIPAA, Federal and State regulations concerning confidentiality.
